Water mist nozzles and water mist nozzles are both commonly used fire extinguishing nozzles in the fire protection industry. Water mist nozzles are an important component in a water mist fire extinguishing system, and water mist nozzles are an important component in a water spray fire extinguishing system. So which one is better, water mist nozzle or water mist nozzle? There is no good or bad distinction between the two. Just choose the appropriate nozzle for different scenarios. The following are the differences between fine water mist nozzles, water mist nozzles and their application systems:

1. The difference in particle diameter between fine water mist nozzles and water mist nozzles

Fine water mist: Water mist droplets with a diameter of Dv0.50 less than 200μm and Dv0.99 less than 400μm formed on a plane 1m downward from the nozzle axis in a fine water mist system. In other words, on this plane, 99% of the droplets have a diameter of less than 400 μm, and 50% of the droplets have a diameter of less than 200 μm.

Water spray: The droplet volume percentage characteristic diameter of the water mist nozzle is DV0.90, which should be less than 1mm. That is to say, the percentage of the volume of droplets below this diameter in the total volume of the spray liquid is not less than 90%.

To sum up in one sentence: "The diameter of fine water mist is smaller than that of water spray, which consumes less water and causes less water damage."

2. The difference in structure between fine water mist nozzles and water mist nozzles

Fine water mist nozzle: It consists of nozzle body, nozzle, nozzle core, filter and other parts. After water under a certain pressure enters the nozzle through the nozzle filter, the pressure water is sprayed out from the nozzle hole at high speed to achieve the fire extinguishing effect.

Water mist nozzle: Water spray is an impact type water mist nozzle, which consists of a splash plate, a diverter cone, and a frame body. The pressure water flow hits the external splash plate and is dispersed into a uniform cone-shaped water mist in the set area.

3. The difference between fine water mist nozzles and water mist nozzle system components

Fine water mist: The fine water mist uses a plunger pump. Due to the high requirements on water quality, stainless steel water tanks and pipes are also required. Stainless steel seamless steel pipes are used, with a service life of up to 60 years. The pipe connection method is argon arc welding, which is beneficial to the later maintenance and repair of the transformer and facilitates the disassembly of the fine water mist pipes. Water spray: Water spray uses a centrifugal pump and a water mist nozzle. The system does not have high requirements for water quality. It only needs to install a filter in front of the deluge valve. Different components have different failure problems, making subsequent repairs troublesome and costly.

4. The difference between fine water mist nozzles and water mist nozzles in application places

Fine water mist: Water particles have a small diameter and are easily affected by airflow, so they are not suitable for outdoor locations.

Water spray: The diameter of water particles in water spray is relatively large and will be less affected by air flow, so it can be used in outdoor places.

5. The difference between fine water mist nozzles and water mist nozzles in fire extinguishing types

Water mist fire extinguishing system: suitable for extinguishing combustible solid surface fires, flammable liquid fires and live equipment fires in relatively closed spaces. The water mist fire extinguishing system is not suitable for extinguishing deep fires involving combustible solids; fires involving active metals and their compounds that can react violently with water or produce a large amount of harmful substances; and combustible gas fires.

Water spray fire extinguishing system: It can be used to extinguish solid material fires, Class C liquid fires, beverage fires and electrical fires, and can be used for protective cooling of production, storage devices or loading and unloading facilities of flammable gases and Class A, B and C liquids. Water spray fire extinguishing systems shall not be used to extinguish fires in which chemical reactions may occur when exposed to water, resulting in combustion or explosion, or fires in which water mist may cause obvious damage to the protected objects.
